Project Still in Progress

Project Summary

This project consist of the interior finish on a Satterwhite Log Home shell. Videos of the home being erected can be seen on http://buildingyourdreamhome.us/shell.htm The interior stud walls are ready for insulation and finish. Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC has been completed as far as possible until walls are closed. The completion will not be accomplished quickly as I will be doing most of the work without assistance. The first floor will be porcelain tile throughout and will be completed by a tile contractor who will also install a tile shower in the bath. Custom cabinets will be built and installed by an outside contractor as will the countertop. Insulation has been installed in most of the downstairs stud walls for sound deadening. The ceiling and loft floor will receive R19 to R30 insulation. I will be installing 1x6 or 1x8 T&G planking on all walls and ceilings. A scaffold system will be required to install ceiling planks in the vaulted ceiling. I will also be fabricating an enclosure for the fireplace chimney and installing a mantle.

Project Journal

First Journal Entry

Most of the insulation has been installed in the stud walls downstairs. I will continue with this effort until I run out of material. My grandson helped with the vaulted wall on the east end of the house as it was too much for my husband who is on oxygen 24/7.

Interior Finish Phase 1

Finally, we were able to get a crew available to help with the ceiling installation. It is definitely a 2 man effort. The 1x6 T&G Aspen is installed on the bedroom, bathroom, and utility room ceilings. We also completed the walls in the bathroom and utility room with 1x8 T&G White Pine. This week we will continue with the ceiling under the loft landing and in the kitchen area. Check back for more updates.

Interior Finish Phase 1a

We have completed the flat ceilings downstairs with the exception of the closets which will be lined with aromatic T&G cedar. The photo is of the ceiling just below the stair landing. It involved cutting a close arc to fit the post. We also installed 90% of the insulation in the loft walls and ceiling. Will finish that when I pick up more insulation. I will be starting on the bedroom and kitchen walls this weekend.

Interior Wall Applications

I completed the long bedroom wall today in a herringbone pattern with 1x6 T&G Blue Ponderosa Pine planks. Blue Ponderosa Pine planks have also been applied to the wall that backs up to the kitchen under the staircase and the refrigerator area in the kitchen. Trim will be applied after all the walls are completed.
