Small handmade pond

HI! I've just bought a house in Garden City, NY. I'm thinking about a small handmade pond. I don't have money for pros and try do it myself. What should I start? Who has already done something like that?

Pond

Do you want pond only, pond with waterfall, pond with creek, pond with creek and waterfall, or pond with fountain?

With a pond to stay clean you need a good filtering system. If you want fish you also need a aerator. Plastic pond liners work well.

How small is small (in square feet or gallons) ? You don't want something so small that as soon as you turn your back, it has become a place for breeding mosquitoes and growing algae.

If it's going to have fish to control those first two aspects, then it has to be deep enough for the fish to cool off and to hide from birds who'll feast on them.
