OMG I've been fighting them for years, about to give up and let them have it all.
Only way that I have ever had any luck is with the pinch type traps.

Try to place your traps in straight tunnels. Those tend to be used for transportation so they may use it repeatedly. The very curvy tunnels are generally them feeding so once the go there they may not come back.

I think that the Tomcat traps have instructions on how to find the active tunnels.
In my area we are nearing a 17 year cicada cycle. The moles go nuts eating them before they emerge from the soil. Most of the gimmicks, poison peanuts, smoke bombs, etc. are a waste of money. I have had luck with the Tomcat scissor trap.

I never tried trapping but it should work. Lots of people, including pro’s do it. Don’t get discouraged if not successful right away. Learn about mole trapping meanwhile.
Another method is to use poison bait in the tunnels. The favorite food is earthworms. You can buy over the counter, depending if your state allows it, what look like “gummy” worms but are in fact treated with a rodenticide. You place them in the tunnel.
Be careful if dogs are in the area as they are good diggers and eat almost anything, especially when you don’t want them to.
Search “mole worms” to get familiar with them. I’ve seen them locally in Tractor Supply, feed stores, Lowes, HD, etc. Regulations on availability of pesticides vary from state to state but the suppliers will know if you can purchase them.

Firstly, you want to smash down all existing tunnels/mounds. Come back next day and see if any look freshly used. They will be raised up a bit. This is a fresh tunnel on which you can set a trap or bait or whatever.

I've heard some people having luck removing the food source, which is often grubs. Other times the traps are the only thing which worked.
