Loose Vinyl Siding
hi,
the pest person wanted me to secure the vinyl siding in case rodents were getting into the crawl space that way.
the last panel of vinyl siding is actually over concrete. you can pull it about 4" inches away from the concrete.
any advice on attaching the siding to the concrete firmly?
tapcons?
thanks!

The bottom row of siding should be secured using a starter strip, and should not be extended over masonry. Can you post a picture or two showing this in its normal state, and pull it back so we can see under it as well? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

It looks like there is no starter strip to hold the bottom of the first row. It will be a pain but I would mark the bottom of your siding and install a starter strip. I would drill the concrete, insert plastic mollies and screws to attach the starter. This will allow you to attach the aluminum starter strip to the concrete while still allowing it and the vinyl siding to expand and contract.

They also make extra long starter strip that is 5" wide or so... just for cases like this. You nail it high to the framing and let it hang down as needed to cover the concrete.
If there is no framing to nail to, they should have tapconed the starter strip to the concrete.

I was dealing with mice in my basement and finally found a gap above my basement windows. The builder had stuffed that gap with fiberglass insulation which was convenient for those critters. But, before closing off their entrance I surrounded it with traps. I think the total was about 8 mice before the activity stopped, but then I knew the outside population in that area was probably zero so they wouldn't just go looking for (or making) another entrance.
My point is, if that is a possible entrance setting traps will confirm one way or another. Then you close it if necessary.
