Question Does this type of valve exist?

Is there a solenoid operated 1/2" valve that operates just like a normal zone valve does.....BUT, needs voltage to stay OPEN? If it loses voltage is closes.

Sure, just search for a normally closed solenoid valve. Here's an example:

https://www.zoro.com/redhat-solenoid...02/i/G1676692/

That one happens to be 120 VAC, a zone valve typically is 24 VAC.

If I use one each of a normally closed and normally open 120 volt solenoid controlled valves I could make my particular hot water system 'automated' so it seems!

Most zone valves are normally closed & require power to open. There are ones, usually used on solid fuel boilers, which are normally open.

What are you trying to accomplish? It looks like you want to bypass the coil by opening valve A and closing valve B. Why is C there?

You could do the same thing with a single 3-way zone valve at the feed tee.

I had to replace the tankless coil a while back. So it was shut everything down cut, unsolder, cut. Then I got the idea to incorporate the hot water out put from my solar hot water storage tank into the feed for my tankless coil on my hot water boiler. Now any solar hot water produced is now the feed for my tankless coil system with its preheated hot water. BUT to isolate the TC when the boiler is down I need to bypass the TC. So 2 tees and one valve later I had my bypass. The only thing needed to do when the boiler is to go downstairs and shut off B and open A, bypass complete.

I got the brain fart to add solenoid controlled shut off valves to make it virtually automatic. If I wire them to the 120 volt feed to my controller each one will either open, or close when the 120 volt feed is cut. One valve opens...one valve closes...Wella! The wife says I'm just a lazy fart. I say I just want to personalize my potable hot water system. She doesn't buy that excuse of mine. Damn that girls is smart...

What you are asking for is a spring return motorized zone valve.

It sounds like it will be costly and actually make a simple buy effective system more complicated to change out the ball valves for electrically operated valves that we use now.

It just takes a trip into the boiler room downstairs to flip two valves....another reason given to me, by my Wife, when I mentioned this.

Don't you hate it when they use that logic crap on you!?
