How to remove hairspray residue from linoleum with "grooves"
I was wondering if there are any suggestions as to how to get hairspray build-up off of my flooring. There is a "pattern" in my linoleum and it has grooves where the build-up tends to go. I am hoping someone has some good suggestions....I've tried a toothbrush, but that doesn't cut it! thanks!

Try scrubbing the floor with ammonia.

hairspray
rubbing alcohol will normally disolve hairspray as well, test a small out of the way area first.

Ammonia is a strong alkaline cleaner and can remove the protective finish on no wax vinyl. Many hairsprays contains lacquer.
Rubbing alcohol is a mild solvent that will not harm vinyl finish and is often effective for removing hairspray from surfaces. Another option is to mix one tablespoon borax in one pint warm water and moisten affected areas and let set. Then, wipe and rinse. Repeat applications may be necessary, depending on severity of buildup, and use the toothbrush if necessary. The solution makes for a good floor cleaner. Note: There are alcohol and lacquer free hairsprays available.

If it is lino...ammonia with its high pH will cause the lineseed oil to bleed causing discoloration..as twelvepole and others stated...rubbing alcohol should do the trick..work in small areas give it 10-15 mins to work..keep it damp during this..then scrub and rinse and move on

Wow!! Thanks for the advice! I used rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush....that did the trick!! I did find out that a firm toothbrush was better than a "medium" one!! Thank you so much!!
