Home Depot - Mills Pride - Four Seasons cabinets ?
Hi,
Has anyone used these cabinets. They are pre-assembled and delivered to your house in 3-4 days Home Depot adverstises.
If you have used them:
Do they have solid wood doors ?
Are they decent ?
Did they install fairly easily ?
Would you buy them again ?
Thanks in advance for any advice...
Pete

Mills Pride
Mills Pride is - in my region - Home Depot's "bottom of the line" wood finish cabinets as far as price and quality.
I actually bought some for my new wet bar in my basement just a few weeks ago (8 linear feet - uppers and lowers). Normally, I would never install this type of cabinet.... but for a wet bar that gets used very, very infrequently, they will do very well. The doors are solid wood - the rest of the cabinet assembly is veneer (as is almost all cabinets other than custom these days). IMO, the difference in cabinets, other than custom, these days is in the construction materials and methods. The Mills Pride are noticeably flimsy compared to higher priced/quality products - but with careful handling while being delivered and installed - will look great on your walls. Like all ready made cabinets, installation is relatively simple and requires no specialized tools. An extra pair of hands does make the job easier.
If I were to buy cabinets for an often used kitchen/bathroom - I would spend about twice as much and get a higher end product. For that "spare bathroom/wet bar" - the Mills Pride ended up being a good choice for me.

I had an estimate for some Mills Pride kitchen cabinets from HD. They came out to about $2200 vesus the $3600 quote for American Woodwork brand.
The Mills Pride is a maple cabinet with a veneer option for other shades. The cabinet is not 100% wood. There are metal sliders (not sure what those are called). I wasn't impressed with the cabinets so I'd rather pay the higher price for better quality..

Mills Pride
I installed MP cabs in my kitchen a couple of years ago. I agree that a previous post mentioned that many cabinets are similar today - wood fronts with laminated boxes. Thus, I couldn't justify the additional cost. After 2 years, they are holding up fine. The maple doors and draw fronts look good and seem sturdy. For larger drawers, such as pan draws. I'd recommend upgrading the the Premier line. This uses solid wood draw boxes rather than metal.
My only regret is not installing side panels to cover the cheap laminate finish. These could be added later, so I guess I still have time. Hope this helps.

are there any other options as far as brands goes? Does anyone else have any suggestions on who they have used and the quality of cabinets they know of? Newbie to homeownership and need a lot of help... I am bouncing from each forum learning as much as I can. This forum is great!!!

Visit your local box store and check out the different price ranges. IMO - both of the "big boys" have some very nice cabinets to offer. I have bought both top of the line and bottom of the line from them, depending on the application. Their "spendier" cabinets are, IMO, as nice as they come. I actually prefer them to custom cabinets for ease of design/purchase/installation, and price.

I used to be in the cabinet industry and have experience with both American Woodmark and Mills Pride. They are both nice for the price. If you are going for a nice look without the big price, I would recommend both. I recently installed the MP line in my new home (2yrs ago) and most people would be hard pressed to see it and not think it cost $30grand. But using a line like MP I was able to spend more on the bells and whistles. I bought the decorative end panels, pull outs, molding, and 3' drawer cabinets. I was very impress with the cabinets. This Mills Pride line was a full overly door, so you must preplan how you are going to install the molding. I don't think you can beat the look for the price. To date, no problems experience whatsoever. Being in the industry I have trouble justifying the additional price of other cabinets. Engineered wood sides and drawer boxes are the standard and hold up well. Only the last 10 years or so has there been a push toward plywood sides and drawer boxes. Some have dovetailed connections which look really nice, but again you have to decide if it is worth it to you. My only complaint was, that I also bought the Mills Pride bathroom cabinets that were made overseas and can say I did notice a big difference in the quality of the assembly. Good luck.
