Do these cracks around the window frame require immediate attention?

Hi,

After the unusually high volume of rain we received in Southern California early this year, I noticed some unsightly cracks appearing around the edges of the window frame next to one of our upstairs bathtubs.

Is this something that needs to be repaired immediately? Thank you in advance.

Not an immediate concern. I'd just caulk them assuming the humidity is under control.

Its not surprising that it cracked... drywall and vinyl do not bond to each other like glue. The rain may or may not have anything to do with it. The frequent high humidity in the bathroom likely makes it worse. In short, this is likely just a cosmetic problem.

Thank you gentlemen for taking the time to reply. I believe it is the humidity from the bathroom that is causing the cracks.

That being said, would it be pointless to repair the cracks? I assume as long as the bathroom is being used for hot showers that the cracks will continue to reappear.

Personally I'd clean out any loose material and caulk it. Caulking will expand/contract a little. If the humidity level is somewhat constant, the caulk will survive but if there are big humidity changes .....

As noted above it is a cosmetic issue so a lot depends on how comfortable you are at looking at it

Best thing to do imo is to apply base shoe to the perimeter (nailing it on with brad nails), then caulk both sides of the base shoe. Eliminate the cracking drywall alltogether.
