Ideas for window treatments?
Hi all! I need some ideas/suggestions/beginner's information for window coverings for the northwest windows in my house.

The space between the windows and at the top is about 6", and the peak is 17'.
My main need is heat control in the summertime (about July-Sept.), with the caveat that when we don't need the heat control, I really like the view and the look of the windows uncovered so I need something either low-profile or completely removable. I'm not overly concerned about privacy as we're way out in the boonies. The style of the room is sort of Craftsman/mid-century modern (ignore the wingback chairs, they're headed to the dump), and I wouldn't be averse to something unusual or industrial looking, as long as it didn't look jury-rigged. The treatments for the top and bottom halves could be different (although it would be nice if they looked unified). It also needs to be something DIY-able and not terrifically expensive.
I was kind of thinking of something like two lengths of doweling hung from hooks in the walls at ceiling level, with canvas-type cloth to cover the two top halves of the west side, and some sort of pulley contraption to raise and lower them, that could be completely taken down after summertime (other than the hooks). But I actually haven't got the first bit of knowledge about window coverings (or doweling or pulleys) and what I could really use is a book or website suggestion where I can learn about window treatments in general and get some practical ideas.
That said, if anyone has any fantastic "just do this" ideas, I'm all ears.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
For windows that size, shape and height, the only things I could suggest would be custom and done by a professional.
There's nothing "practical" that you could DIY or find in a book or on a website, as far as I know. Anything jerry rigged (or jury rigged) with pulleys would look just that.
Have you considered window film? That should also be done by a pro for best results, but would be less expensive than custom window treatments."If it was easy, anyone could do it!"
