Drop ceiling return grille

I'm planning on installing a drop ceiling in my basement in a few weeks. There is a return duct that will be covered by the ceiling. Currently, this duct is just sticking out of the return box no routed to anything, just pulling air from the basement. My plan was to install a 2'x2' grille and run this to the return duct. My plan was to use this since it would just replace a ceiling tile. However, this is just the grille and there is no backing with a collar. How would I go about connecting this to the 6" return duct?

Welcome to the forums. The grill you refer to is not made for a drop in ceiling. Try using one like this SPEEDI-GRILLE 24 in. x 24 in. Drop Ceiling T-Bar Perforated Face Return Air Vent Grille, White with 10 in. Collar-TB-PRA 10 - The Home Depot. It gives you the ducting attachment point as well as the dimensions for laying in the grid.

Thanks for your help. I ended up ordering that same one on Amazon with an 8" collar for a little bit cheaper.
