Thumbs down GE Washer Short Agitation Cycle and wet clothes

We have a GE WJSR2080V1WW electric washer that is about 6 years old. Once the washer fills it agitates for about 5 seconds and then stops. After about 5 minutes, it drains and refills then agitates for about 5 seconds and again after a 5 minute wait.... drains. Also after it completes the spin cycle the clothes are still wet. I have removed the timer and taken it apart and cleaned the contacts. The timer motor advances the timer but seem kind of noisy. Was wondering if the timer was bad or if maybe the clutch. Any other ideas??

Thanks

Randy, welcome to the DIY forums

I am not pro, but on the GE site found here:

http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/faqs/

this is what I found that might help you. If it doesn't. You should go to the site above. There's more info on there that might help.

"Washer Does Not Spin Clothes Out Completely

If you cannot physically wring water from clothing, then the washer is spinning properly. Since most GE washers use a cold water rinse, the clothes may feel heavier. This seems to be more noticeable in the winter when the cold water is colder because of ground temperatures.

Causes and Solutions:
If water is left in the tub, there may be a garment in the outer tub, underneath the basket, which is restricting the drain hole area. On models after 1995, only a small sized article could pass over into the outer tub and most likely it would continue on to the pump area. If this were to happen some disassembly could be required.

If no water is visible in the basket and you hear a "sloshing water sound", it could be the normal sound of the washer's balance ring. The balance ring is an enclosed plastic container partially filled with a saltwater solution. It is attached to the inner clothes basket and allows the basket to spin smoothly during an out-of-balance situation.

Using the mini basket will give wetter results than loads washed in main wash basket. The mini basket has fewer holes for the water to escape. In addition the force of the clothes being pushed against the basket is less when in the mini basket.

Ensure that you have selected the proper cycle for the garments you are washing. Heavy loads should not be in the gentle cycle.

The machine will not get to top spin speed if it is overloaded or unbalanced.

Be sure the drain hose is not kinked or partially restricted.

A cold water rinse makes clothes feel wetter than a warm rinse.
If the above suggestions do not correct the situation, service will be required. If you would like to schedule a service appointment, please contact GE Consumer Service or Click here to schedule a service appointment on-line. "

GE washer

It sounds as though the motor is overheating & shutting off on the built in thermals. Motor takes awhile to cool off & come back on. In the meantime the timer is still advancing through the cycle & depending when the motor comes back on its not allowing a full spin. Pull the plug & take front off washer. Try turning the belt by hand. Should turn fairly easy. You can also take the belt off & run machine on spin cycle without a load on motor to see if motor shuts off before cycle is finished. Either motor bearings bad or tranny going bad & putting an extra load on motor. Dave
