Found another garbage picked vacuum

Howdy folks:

A while back, I garbage picked a black bissell vacuum cleaner. Well I did decide to part with it since the cord was ripped. However before I completely threw it out, I did plug it in to see if it worked and it ran, but I didn't try to actually vacuum with it since the cord was in such bad shape.

Now a few days ago, I found a dirt devil vacuum on the side of the dumpster at the beloved apartment complex where I live.

Before I took it, I checked the cord to make sure it was ok, checked the bag which does need to be changed, move the beater bar and it moved like normal, and so I proceeded to garbage pick it. since the beater bar moved ok, the suction hose inside wasn't clogged and the cord was ok,

I decided to give it a test and low and behold, it does work like it's supposed to.

It just needs a good cleaning and a few replacement parts such as the rubber belt, a new bag which I don't happen to have right now and possibly a new filter of which you will see a picture of here.

So I mainly want to know.

What are some good ways to clean a vacuum more so where there beater bar is, where the bag goes, etc...?

Also the filter which goes below the bag inside the vacuum, should it be replaced or can it just be cleaned off?

There is no model number on this vacuum. The only thing I found on there was a warranty start date of May of 2006.

It is amazing the things people discard in this "throw away economy".

I've recently came across lawn tools, chain saw, trimmer, edger, that needed minor adjustments and sold on CL for $300.

Love it!!

A ten tear old Dirt Devil is approaching the end of its useful life. They are inexpensive and weren't built to last a long time.

The model number is right there on the tag.
Dirt Devil model #085610
Some sites may add an M prefix to it...... M085610.

I see.

Depending on the price of the belt for the beater bar and the filter that goes below the bag, I may or may not keep it. We'll see. It would replace a bissell vacuum that sounds like the motor is about to die any day on it. A post about that vacuum will be coming soon.

If it looks in good shape.... spend a few dollars on it.
