Replace switch inside metal box with ground attached to box

Hi.

If I'm replacing a switch and the original switch doesn't have ground attached to it, but instead the ground coming from the cable is screwed to the metal box, do I have to attach a pigtail from the new switch to the ground or box?

I read that the switch will be in contact with the box when it's screwed in and won't need to be attached to the ground wire via the ground screw.

Ground wire to the switch is optional on a metal box. (I believe there is an exception it is required if the cover plate is metal.)
