Is it OK to wire a single switch to multiple lights like this?

I am used to wiring multiple lights from a single switch in series like this:

I have a situation where i need to have several lights back to a single junction box like this. Is it OK?

So long as the junction box remains accessible that is okay.

The junction box needs enough capacity for all the conductors it needs to contain .
