installing a dimmer - wire colors

hi

i live in an apartment that was built before 1970 or something...i forgot what management told me last year... anyway, i wanted to convert a light switch to a dimmer and ran into a problem with all the online instructions i found...

the light switch has a blue wire on top, and a single black wire (looped) and splitting off into 2 directions inside the box (on bottom, same side of blue wire).

my dimmer has 2 black, 1 green....

what on earth am i supposed to do? NO guides i've found mention a blue wire.

Since this is an apartment you should ask the landlord to have a qualified person install it. For reasons of liability you should never do electrical work on property you don't own.

Let me add that the answer to your question is so obvious it shows a lack of even basic knowledge and because of that I would encourage you not to do it. You may also want to buy and read a book such as Wiring Simplified.

I'm with Ray - don't do this.
