GE Simon XT GSM module - newbie needs help

Hi, I bought a GE Simon XT with GSM module. I tried to configure it to call my cell phone, instead of a monitoring system. Here is what I did: I took out the sim that came with the system, and replaced with the sim card of my own cell phone , enter the phone # of my another cell phone, and put voice dial in the phone option. I tried the comm. test, but it keeps giving me comm. test failed message and wouldn't call my cell phone. Could somebody advise? Many thanks!!

That's not going to work...It will only call your cell phone if...
A) your GSM is active with Alarm.Com (they are the ones who call your cell, not your SIM card)

B) you use a landline and use the voice dialer option you describe above...

The GSM module is locked then? i.e. we can't manually reprogram it to utilize another service or interface to it directly ?

if you have the Alarm.Com GSM, it only works with their service....

Lots of 3rd party options for cellular reporting to a central station...For internet/mobile control, no there is not.
