How to reprogram a Safewatch Pro 3000 with 6272CVADT TouchCenter KeyPad

Hello there,

I just moved into a home that currently has a Safewatch Pro 3000 with a 6272CVADT TouchCenter KeyPad. I do not have a way to communicate with the previous home owner.

I accidentally armed the system and attempted to disarm it by entering 6321 and 1234 which were recommended codes from searching the web. I also saw somewhere that a way to reprogram the system was to hold the # and * together while entering a series of combinations, however, having a touchcenter keypad, I don't understand how this would be possible.

Right now, I have unplugged the system and disconnected the battery, but I would like to be able to access and use this device.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

-JT

With this keypad taking too long to boot up, it isn't pssible to enter programming with the * # method just because it takes too long. If you don't have the installer code, your best bet is to get a cheap keypad just to use to enter programming and set the installer code. Then you could use the keypad emulator on the touchscreen to program anything else.

It's never a bad idea to have an alpha keypad anyway, 6160 or 6139 even, but any cheap keypad can be set up and used with the * # method. Id look for 6150, 6128, 6152 is newer version of 6150. If you dont have a wireless receiver then you could get an rf keypad, just a thought.

Make sure to set the address to 16 when you first power on the added keypad.

You can enter programming if you know the installer code. Make the touch center show the alpha keypad emulator and then you can program with it but it is a bit slower than the standard 6160.

Once the keypad numbers are shown, use installer code + 800 to enter programming. You just won't be able to enter using the * # method because the touch pad takes too long to initialize and you only have 60 seconds from power up....

I'm beginning to understand. Now how do I make the touch center show the alphanumeric key pad?

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps the user manual will help: http://www.security.honeywell.com/do...00-04705V1.PDF

Just wanted to add a word of warning: If your SWP 3000 panel was programmed to "Power Up in Previous State", then as soon as you power it up, it will be armed. I try never to program a panel to do that (causes false alarms), but some installers do.

You cannot enter panel programming when the panel is armed.

I've never tried this myself, but I've heard that you can sometimes get into programming past the power-up Armed state by holding the *# together (on a keypad, not a touchpad) while you power up--usually requires two people, or wiring the keypad at the panel with a cable long enough to use the KP at the transformer.

Ideally I would like to purchase a keypad and reprogram the system. Does WalMart or Canadian Tire sell anything that would work for this situation?

Your best bet may be online like ebay pretty cheap.

Agree with jdh79. I've had good luck with ebay.

You will need a Honeywell/Ademco 6160 keypad. A 6139 will also work, but it'll be older than a 6160 and for some reason, sellers ask the same price range most of the time; so I'd look for a 6160.

Update*

Ok guys,

I have purchased and installed a 6160 keypad. Now I have gotten as far as entering * and # which brings up "INSTALLER CODE 20" on the display, but I can't get past this step in order to reprogram. Any advice?

I have successfully entered a new code, however, when hooking up my older version (6272C), and arming this with the new code, it doesn't disarm.

Did you change the _installer_ code or the _master_ code? The installer code cannot disarm the system if it has been armed by _any_ other means.

I strongly suspect that you still haven't set a new master code.

I suspect MrRonFL is right.

The Installer Code was designed to let installers/service techs work on the system without necessarily knowing what Master Code the User programmed for himself. It's not meant to be used like a User Code.

When you program yourself a new Master Code or any other User Codes, DON'T use the Quick-Arm feature (two button presses) or a keyfob or anything else to arm the system to test it. Test the code by using it to toggle the chime. If that works, test it again by arming WITH THE CODE, then disarming with the code.

I'm glad you were able to get into Programming while it was armed before--you were lucky-- but don't count on that working every time.

Up and running! Master code and installer code have to be different numbers in order for it to work. Thanks everyone for the tips!
