Recycling
I just started recycling a year ago, and I was wondering how necessary it was to make sure everything was clean and rinsed out before I put it out in the recycling?

Few reasons. First it gives the recycler a cleaner product without all the residue. Next, it will keep rats and ants and other animals out of your recycle bin while you await pick up. I think the last reason is the most important, especially if you live in an area like me where possums and raccoons and bear are abundant. Plus if you keep it inside it will eventually smell up things if the residue begins to decay.

Depends on the requirements of your service (besides the critter and smell thing).
Seems I remember that when I had it...they wanted aluminum foil, pans and such rinsed off, but didn't care about glass items. They also started out saying remove lids and caps, then changed to leave them on. That also addresses the critter and smell issue, but I think they did it so if it rained the containers wouldn't fill up.Vic
