my heat pump blows hot air all the time. i can only turn it via the breaker box. when i flip the breaker the inside unit cycles off and on 30 sec. on 30 sec off. After a couple of the cycle it will stay on even if its turned off at the thermastat. Also the outside unit is not coming on.
oops! I didnt mean to do that. But any how I have a new honeywell RTH7400 thermo that im not sure how to wire up correctly. It appears to have been replaced before because some of the wires have stickers on them.Last edited by Jay11J; 01-29-08 at 06:23 AM. Reason: Merged the post together.

Sounds like something is wired wrong.
What is the model # of the air handler inside, and also the heat pump outside?
Will have to help you try to clean up the wire, and get it right.-Jay

Like said you have to find out what wires go to what in the blower unit. Then you can go from there.

Wouldn't the function 270 be set @ 270-9 for electric heat instead of 270-3 water/gas

Glad to hear it's working.
The reason I suggest 270 to 3 is when it's at 9, a lot of people states that the heat come on and off way too often when you have it set to emergency heat mode.
9 will work, but if you find that the electric heat comes on and off way to often to your liking, change it to 3.-Jay

Jay - I just installed a honeywell RTH7000 series thermostat that runs my York heat pump. Now that it is in and I set it to heat (not emergency heat) the heat pump fires up and runs but about 30 seconds after that the thermostat indicates AUX Heat and the air out of the registers gets hot like it is running on emergency heat but the heat pump is still running. I had a white and Rogers thermostat before and this never happened, it always ran solely off the heat pump unless I switched to emergency heat.
The Honeywell thermostat has a 240 and a 270 setting. Both indicate to set to 9 in the manual. Should I do the same as what you have previously suggested and set both of these to 3 or just set the 270 to 3?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, change them to 3, and also if the room temp is below set point, it will fire off Aux and once it's near the set point, it will back out.. So don't freek out if you see this happen if it's near set point, it will back out shortly.
Also give the stat a few days or more to learn your home.-Jay
