Why would anyone buy a very small piece of property if you can't build on it
I own a house beside a small piece of property that the house was torn down to put in a new road. Back in 2003 the state told us a road would go in behind our property. The neighbors house was town down in 2005 and the road did go in. Their property was cut in half (its only about 80 feet deep and 60 feet wide) and was owned by the township. Years ago a gas station company wanted to buy all three properties but since the economy sank no deal went through. BUt the area really does need one bc of all the houses that were built. These 2 brothers (I saw in the internet county data assessment) bought the corner small lot in June 2011
Who would want a small piece of land that you have to mow and no one wants unless they know something I dont. I am not selling to anyone but the gas station . I did go down to that township building and the woman clerk said she thinks the guys live a few hours away but didn't know anything.

60x80 is big enough to erect a small building/house on or even a mobile home. You might want to find out what that parcel is zoned for. The proposed gas station may or may not have gotten the zoning changed to meet their needs.

Do your county have GIS data available on their website. It makes it easy to see who owns what property and makes it easy to keep an eye on what's going on around you.

Why would anyone want to build on a small piece of property
I did mention I saw the names of who bought the property in our county data assessment website.
The lady down at the boughoug building just said she heard the two guys are from Erie which is about 8 hours away and they go around and buy property. I was just wondering why would anyone want to buy such a small piece if nothing can be built there. These three
properties is still residential but we are hoping it goes commercial. Also, if the three houses that are still here would we have to pay to have it changed to commercial? The three houses are so old and we would all profit if a gas station would go in.

Sounds like land speculation to me.

Generally whoever wants the zoning changed has to formally request it a a zoning board meeting. Fees can vary and often a representative is hired to facilitate the request. If your property gets rezoned, it may affect the tax value and how much property tax you pay.retired painter/contractor

thank you
I forgot to mention this property has a main road behind it,
a short road beside it and a road out front . And the house I rent out is beside the empty heavily weeded lot with cement blocks from the house that was torn down with two large trees.

So you own the only adjacent property?

Does the person who bought that small piece of land own other property nearby? He might have bought it to prevent someone else from developing the nearby lots.
If your property is about to be rezoned, or even if just the adjacent property is about to be rezoned or a variance sought, you will be notified. You may go to the hearing and object if you wish to.
