Whirlpool Elec Dryer - funny noise
Whenever I have an issue with anything around the house - this is the first place I come. Hope you guys can bail me out again!
Whirlpool electric dryer - Model: LER4634EQ2 - purchased about 13-14 years ago.
Today, began making a low-pitched "moaning" (sorta) noise (noises are so hard to explain in writing). When I hit the START button, it makes a loud, low hum as the drum begins turning...almost as if the motor is under a huge load trying to get started (just a few shirts in it). Then the groaning noise continues as it runs.
Seems to heat up and tumble OK (aside from the noise)....however, I just noticed it will only run for about 10 minutes...then shut off. It will restart, but only run for another 10 minutes or so.
Initially, I was thinking a bearing somewhere (rear drum, idler pulley??)...but with it shutting off after 10 minutes, it makes me think something's putting a load on the motor, and the heating up to where the thermostat is tripping.
Any thoughts?

You have a motor going bad. Soon the only way you will get it to start is hold door switch and turn drum. Haft the time I also have to replace blower wheel as it is frozen on shaft.

Thanx pugsl! I agree.
Dove in to it last night. Everything else looks fine - belt (suprisingly), idler pulley, rear rollers, etc)...gotta be the motor.
Got one on order - should be in tomorrow or Thursday. I'll post the results.
Thanx again.

I had that problem about 8 years ago on my Kenmore (Whirlpool), but my problem was just dry motor bearings, no noise. I replaced the motor and it has been fine ever since. Mine is now 27 years old.Soon the only way you will get it to start is hold door switch and turn drum.
