3 position retractive switch and electrical projector screen

Hey All,

I know this is lighting but I believe it is an answer same as lighting that I need.

Please see photos.

I have trunking/tubing clips etc...

I have a motorised screen to fit for a projector and have abought a 3 position switch with L1 L2 and Com.

Normally when I am replacing switches or when fitting replacement lights it has been fine, but I just seem to be stuck bc there is nothing in place to 'copy'.

What do I need to do to get this up and running..

Power source from light fitting or plug etc.. fine.

But then I am left with Live (brown) and neutral (blue) from screen presumably as per pic and then switch with L1 L2 and Com.

So add in live and neutral and an earth.. where do I go.

Presumaby I will need to run another wire as a switch wire etc... but feeling lost and a bit dumb .

Many thanks in advance.

Not sure on what you are asking but are you saying you have only two wires instead of three from the motor or actuator and you need three for it to be reversible? Can you give us the make and model of the device?

Where to start

Hi.

I am not sure where to start.

I have 2 wires out of the screen with the motor.. no make and model.

3 position rocker switch is MD075BK 10A 3 Position Retractive Switch Black

And do not have existing power source.

I plan to get power from nearby light fitting or plug in cable to socket...

However, not sure where power source live and neutral go into the L1 L2 and Com and then the blue and brown from the motor.

Switch needs to allow for projector screen to come down position 1 .... do nothing in position 2 and then retract and go up in position 3.

As I said.. normally replacing switches or light fittings is ok.. but I need to start from scratch here like a brand new light fitting so unsure of how to tackle it.

Thanks for reply.

I only have Live and neutral from motor (brown and blue)

So the most I could do would be to wire up like a normal switch:

http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/2750/jblp4.gif

However all my research suggests there should be 4 wires from the screen, one being the earth.

Black for UP and White for DOWN.

With mine only have 2x... do I need to do something clever with the switch terminals.

I have

Com - assuming permanent LIVE.
L1 - assuming switch wire to motors brown wire.
L2 - NOT USED Would not use this normally in a single switched system.

And blue wire wires into black neutral light wiring circuit.

Am I missing something... because I cannot see how the motors will go and down unless I reverse polarity or something ...

Thanks everyone.. bit puzzled.

Had a go - wired up as a standard light and switch

Wired up as per the previous diagram ... as if it was a light and wired to L1 and Com.

Got some bucking (screen and projector was already closed..) Nothing else and it blew my 5amp fuse in my plug I was using as a test rig.

Also got some more info. It is a MISU motor that is 50Watt. Thats all I can get from taking the cap of the end off from the cylinder.

Any ideas please everyone...

I don't know why I didn't see this thread sooner...... sorry.

If you only have two wires coming out of the screen then it DOES NOT run on 230 vac. It will need some kind of power supply that puts out DC for motor reversing. Is there any name at all on the screen.

If it says 50 watts on the motor and it's fused at 5 amps then I'd try a 12 VDC power supply first. Connecting the motor one way will bring the screen down. When you reverse the wiring the screen will go up.

How do I reverse

Great... thanks for reply.
How do I reverse.

What is wiring config for the back.

I have Com, L1 and L2

And a Lie (brown) and a neutral (blue)from the motor.

I have wired up in a test rig like a normal light circuit... How do i do wiring to reverse.

thanks

Yes.....more information.

We haven't really confirmed anything here.

Do you know what voltage the screen runs on ?

If there are only two wires from the screen it usually means you need to use a DC power supply. You can't guess.....you need to know what the screen requires.

I am afraid I cannot get any more info

I am not keeping info to myself I literally have given you everything I can see and find.

I have several 12 volt transformers ranging from 5ma to 3A or so I think.
So I can start low and increase ..

What would you say would be best to start at transformer AMP wise.

Also, How do I reverse with the connectors I have or do I need a different switch..

Thanks

I know you aren't keeping information to yourself.
It's just that without more information I don't know what to do.

Try using your 12v 3 A power supply. It must be a DC supply. Try connecting the wires in one direction and see what happens. Then......reverse the wires and see what happens.

For right now.....don't use the switch.
