Basement overhead light not working
Hey guys,
This must seem like a silly question. Basement light went out. It hanging on the ceiling wood, switch activated (no chain). Changed the light bulb but didn't work. Attached to the light fixture is a box for "5VA 10W Nutone Scovill 515-N." from google I found this seems to be a box for the front door doorbell which is still working fine. There is a thick black electrical wire attached to lighting fixture which, OMG, doesn't plug into anything but just goes up the wall. Not sure how to fix this. Any clue please? Txs- Shannon

If light buld works in different lamp than we need to drop light fixture down leave wires attached. Be careful as wires to doorbell transformer will still be hot. Take pictures of wires and we will see what mat be wrong.

Turn off the breaker. bend up the tab in the bottom of the bulb holder, turn the breaker on, and try again. If the door bell stops working you have probably found the correct breaker but work on it as if it is hot.

That looks like a single piece of three wire cable.
It carries the always live and switched power to that box.
If not a problem with the light socket..... it could be a bad wall switch.
