Poulan 2025 chainsaw

So, buddy of mine has a poulan 2025 chainsaw, sat for a year, won't start. LONG story short....replaced the cracked fuel lines, air filter, spark plug (gapped at 25 thousandths as required) fuel filter, and the carb since it was so cheap, fresh gas 40:1 as required. Starts (sometimes) and dies, sometimes starts and idles, dies when pulling trigger, couple times it would rev up and run, ready to go, then just dies. The compression is at a healthy 110psi. Im at a loss, any help? I have tried to adjust the carb, turning the high and low in till it just seats, then start with one full turn out on each, but never can really get it to stay running long enough to work on the adjustments. I know its a cheap saw, but i only have $30 into it. Any help/advice will be much appreciated!

Check the muffler and exhaust port for carbon or other blockage.

Any chance one of the fuel lines is pinched under the carb or somewhere? Sounds sort of like a fuel delivery problem.

Had the muffler off and cleaned, also cleaned the spark arrestor, none of which were very dirty, and little to no carbon build up. i also know for a fact that the fuel lines are not pinched, as i have the top cover off as i start it, and can see the 3 lines, no kinks or bends, and the primer bulb is good as well. I even pulled the fuel filter off, even though it was new, to see if somehow it was restricting fuel flow, no difference. The few times it would idle, i can see the fuel flowing. Im really at a lose here! I have the basic 3, fuel, spark, compression, real head scratcher here. Thanks for helping.

Fuel Lines

When the fuel lines were cracked, was the fuel filter disconnected from the fuel intake line? If so, dirt may have gotten into the carburetor.

i replace the fuel lines and the filter first, wouldn't start, then, i replaced the carb with a new one because it was so cheap, so no, no dirt in the carb.

Still sounds like a fuel issue. I'm thinking the fuel lines are not connected properly. How do you have them connected?

Hi Cheese,The fuel line from the tank is going to the primer bulb, then the other line from the primer bulb is going to the right port on the carb(looking down with the handle close, blade point away), and the return line from the left part of the carb back to the tank. The original carb had both the feed and return on the right side of the carb, and the replacement carb has the return port, which is pointing down, on the left and the feed line on the right side. I don't think they are hooked up wrong??

Yes, he did!

Okay, your lines need to be: The line with the filter in the tank goes to the inlet on the car. That would be the fitting closest to the cover that is held on with 2 screws I believe. The other fitting closer to the side with 4 screws... that should go to the side of the primer bulb that has suction when you let off the bulb. Then, the line that has pressure when you push the bulb should go directly to the return in the tank. The primer pulls fuel through the carburetor and pushes it back into the tank.
