Harmonic Balancer Repair GM 3800
Hi,
I have an 1992 olds 88 with 3800 engine that needs the Harmonic Balancer Replaced. I have found several bits of information on removal but none on installation- is it just the removal procedure but in reverse?
Also, what would be a guesstimated price on this repair? I live in Ohio.(I didn't know if location made a difference.) What is a fair price for a mechanic's hourly rate? I know both these question are subjective but I am at a loss to have a point to start from.
Many Thanks!!!!

You need to use a heavy duty puller to remove the pulley, if I remember right, you will probably have to disconnect the motor mounts or drop the sub-frame slightly for this vehicle in order to get enough room to remove the pulley. It is a press fit pulley. For installation, carefully tap the new balancer onto the crankshaft with a soft faced hammer, after that you should just be able to tighten your crank bolt to fully ease the balancer back into place. Make sure you are able to hand thread the crank bolt at least several turns before it contacts the new balancer, you don't want to pull any threads from the crank.
