What kind of Chevy? Possibly a fuel shut off.
There are several fixes if so.

OK look in your manual if you have one. Find a section that says passlock. I think that vehicle has one. Its a hall effect sensor in the ignition.
To reset I believe you need to leave the ignition on for 10 minutes until the light goes out.
Although I had trouble with mine I sprayed the key and ignition cylinder with lubricant and I gt another yr or so befor it acted up again.
First we need to determin if thats your issue.
security light still flashing right?
I ended up soldering a resistor in line with the control modual. There are other ways by disconnecting the wire to it but the security light will stay on all the time. I did not want that.
I will try to find the link and post back.
let us know what the manual says. Should be under "passlock" " fuel" etc....

i will check on the manual tomorrow.just might need to spray it,we use it to "pack" the track at [link removed], it is a dirt track and a lot of mud and dust. we don't care it the light stays on if it is a quick fix. thanks Mike NJ

Passlock issues are extremely common with older GM products to the point that GM included such 10 minute wait solutions in their owner manuals, but inspite of that, do you have a second key? Did you try using a second key to confirm the issue is also not with the key itself. That also does happen as keys get older. Keys can and do fail too.

My car did some what the same thing but it wouldn't crank. I washed the key with dish soap and a tooth brush and fixed it.
