If you've got any experience with laminated flooring, I could use some advice. I've been hearing different things from different professionals and I'm a bit confused.

First, the job: approximately 1500 square feet being installed on top of ceramic tile. The tile is in reasonably good shape altho two rooms have carpeting {which is being taken up} installed over the existing tile. The house is in South Florida but air conditioning keeps the atmosphere pretty consistent thruout the year.

I've been told...

Stay away from 7mm and 8mm laminates.
8mm is OK.
Brand names don't matter.
Brand names do matter.
The most important thing is the warranty.
Underlayment is critical.
Don't worry about underlayment. A moisture barrier is all you need.
Make sure you use the underlayment recommended by the mfr or you might void the warranty.

So you can see why I'm confused. So far, the laminate I've liked the best is made by Duravel, is 8.3mm thick and has a 25 year warranty. As for traffic thru the house, I'm single with pets so it's not a perpetual problem. At this point, I'm not even certain what other questions to ask.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
