Replacing Thermostat Heat Pump
Heat Pump: Bryant 517en018005
new thermostat LUX TX9000TS.
Old thermostat is a Bryant and here is a pic of the diagram

kinda hard to see some of them but starting in top left and going clockwise:
C G Y R E W2 O W1
new thermostat terminals:

A bit hard to see but they read:
W Y G B O RC RH C
any idea why there's no E slot? Thanks so much in advance for the help!

I am afraid you are going to have to take this back and get a REAL thermostat.
The stat you got is not going to work with your system. so that's why it don't have E.
I'd suggest the Honeywell RTH7500, or Touch screen RTH7600.
Go to your furnace or air handler and see what wires are all hooked up. The main one I am looking at is the W1, W2, and E. I've never seen those 3 be used at once.-Jay

thnaks for the reply...why is this not a "REAL" thermostat? we have a couple of these already on some overhead furnaces and they work great. also in the manual it says it works with single stage heat pumps?

That t-stat only does one thing, where it may be just fine for a single stage furnace or a heat pump that does not have back up heat (E and/or Aux).
I know there are a few tech out there says the Hunter just don't hold up over time like Honeywell would.-Jay

It's not really the Aux light, it's the emergceny heat mode, your old -stat has that switch on the right hand side.
Hunter does not have that, where Honeywell does have the Emergency heat.-Jay

ok so about to order a thermostat to support emergency heat on a heat pump...but like you say after looking online at the manual, W1 is not even listed in the chart. any ideas what I should be looking for at the air handler?

What did you order?
On the air handler, you may have W1, W2, maybe W3, R, G, Y, C, and maybe O.
Make and model of your air handler?-Jay

Amazon.com: Lux Products HP2110 Smart Temp Programmable Heat Pump Thermostat: Home Improvement

I tried looking for that model # and it must be an older model.
I am going to say it may have W1 and W2 or W3 on it since your old stat has E and Aux wired up.
Lux are allright, I had that before, but I just did not like the "swing" temp they have.-Jay

I would need you to go to the air handler and look at the t-stat wires hook up to see what you all have on the board (if it has one), otherwise, look at the wire diagram on the t-stat/low voltage hook up, and see what you all have there.
Take a photo of it if you don't understand how to read the diagram. Wish I could pull up the info on line, but I'm guessing ti's an older unit, and the info is not on line.-Jay

I'm finally getting around to trying to replace this old tstat again. I will take your advice and try out the Honeywell rth7600....I still don't understand what to do with the W1, W2 and E wires though and after looking at the handler, I couldn't really tell where hte panel was /it wasnt easy to access. Any other ideas?

Ok, your heating is a single stage strip, so not sure why W2 on the old stat was used?
For your new stat hook up below.
Old------New
C---------C
W1------Aux
G--------G
Y---------Y
E--------E
O-------O/B
R--------R/Rc
If you can trace the t-stat wire at the air handler to see where the W2/blue wire is going to. if you can't trance, then just tape it off and tuck it into the wall.-Jay

-

Yes, that will work. Must be getting a good price if you are ordering it than going to Home Depot and buying one?

Jay, thanks for the help/advice. I never did trace that wire back to the handler, but rather just taped off the W2...everything works great. Take care

No problem thank you...it's SO nice not to have to freeze in the mornings, turn it up, wait for an hour to warm up lol...and have to remember to cut it back down at the end of the day..one more thing automated. great invention indeed

Just don't be cranking up and down the stat. Doing this is going to turn on the Aux strip $$$$$$$$ Set to what you like for temp and leave it.
