Furnace fan will not run continuously

I have a forced air gas furnace but no A/C. I could run just the fan continuously in the summertime- to get circulating air only- with an old analog thermostat. The heater has been working fine with a new digital, non-programmable thermostat recently installed by a professional but the fan will not run continuously when the thermostat setting is changed from Auto to On. I tried it both with the Heat Setting on and off. I hear a click from the thermostat similar to that made when the Heat Setting is changed but the fan doesn't come on. What might the problem be? Thank you.

Ensure that G on the furnace control board is wired to G on the thermostat.
