Nest2 with Trane Heat Pump + Electrical Emergency Heat
Hi,
I currently own a touch screen Honeywell Digital Thermostat VisionPro 8000 (TH8320U). I would like to replace this thermostat with a Nest second generation.
Attached is picture of my current thermostat. My systems is a Trane XL15i (4TWX5030A) with Electrical Emergency Heat. The air handler is 4TEE3F39A. The Heat Pack TBAYHTR1415BRKC
I contacted Nest support to make sure my system was compatible. Here is what they have answered:
Current Wiring:
E - Jumpered to AUX - do NOT use Jumper - Will not use E -
AUX - White
R - Red
O/B - Orange
Y - Yellow
G - Green
C - Blue
-----------------------------------
Nest2:
Will not use E or its jumper -
White - W1
Red - Rc
Orange - O/B
Yellow - Y1
Green - G
Blue - C
Next select Settings > Equipment > Continue > Continue > Heat Pump > "O" > Set Lock out Temp to 25-35 degrees > Confirm > Set Aux Heat to 35-45 degrees > Done -
Could someone let me know if this is OK? Thanks for your help!

What are you locking out? If you have electric heat strips, you do not want to lock out the HP, let the HP run, and only cycle the Aux as needed.
Not sure waht the aux lock out means? (I have not been around nest myself) If it meaning not to allow the aux heat to come, lock it out above 40˚

Here is what I found about the lock out temperature:
"Other thermostats have one way to control auxiliary heat: the AUX lockout temperature. If your AUX lockout temp is 40ºF/4.4ºC, then auxiliary heat will come on when the outdoor air temperature drops below 40ºF/4.4ºC."
What is Heat Pump Balance?
In my case Nest recommended to make their thermostat work as a regular thermostat by switching off "heat pump balance". Heat pump balance is explained above. In my case 35F to 45F will be my lockout temperature.
Did you have a chance to look at the existing and proposed wiring? Does it make sense? thanks!

Terminal block
This is what I have a the terminal block. Originally I had a jumper between E and AUX at the thermostat panel. Right now I removed the jumper and I am using the black wire for E as you can see in the attached picture. Black and white have now a jumper here. I want to do a switch one to one from my current thermostat into the Nest. That is the reason why I created a jumper here. Nest doesn't allow jumpers.
I noticed some corrosion on my G terminal as you can see in my picture. How can I remove the corrosion?
You mentioned I should use W1 in the Nest. W1 or W2?

You should at least have a wire on * to so that way if something was wrong with your HP, you can switch over to Emergency heat.
Also you want to wire it to Aux since you're using a HP system.
