Load bearing studs?

Hi Everyone,

So I want to completely open up this closet and put up hooks for coats. Are these studs load bearing?

Thanks,
Sam

Sometimes the answer is not easy with old houses. Ordinarilly I would say no that is not a load bearing wall because the top plate is just a thin plank and not a full 2x4. But... I see the tail end of a rafter right above the doorway. Rafters usually end/join over a load bearing wall. How is the back wall of the closet constructed. It's possible that it is a load bearing wall.

I agree... I'm going to try to look at the back wall and see if the joist joint is sitting over that.

You could alter it by increasing your header size, move two studs to the sides, install jacks above.
