1 Eco-Friendly Brass Tarnish Removers
what you'll need
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
Brass tarnish looks ugly. You can buy commercial cleaners to remove it, but these contain chemicals. Why not make your own cleaner instead? Not only will it remove brass tarnish, but it’s also eco-friendly.
Step 1 - Mix
Mix white vinegar and baking soda together until you’ve created a paste. The sodium that’s in the baking soda work with the acetic acid in the vinegar and this will remove the tarnish from the brass.
Step 2 - Apply
Rub the paste onto the brass. Don’t just apply to the brass tarnish but to the entire object to clean it completely. Rub it in with a soft cloth-never use a brush. Rinse the paste off the object then dry it with a soft cloth. Using a brush can end up scratching the brass rather than cleaning it.
Step 3 - Second Application
With bad brass tarnish you might need to apply a second dose of the vinegar-baking soda mixture. There should be no need to leave it on the brass before you remove it carefully and use the soft cloth.
You should be aware that this mixture will also work well as a cleaner with bronze, although it’s most effective on brass.
