2 Bathroom Sink Base Styles
If you are considering a bathroom remodel then choosing the best bathroom sink base can be a tricky decision. Here is a little bit of information on different bases to help you with the decision process.
1. Pedestal
A pedestal sink base is more about the look and feel of the bathroom. You can have many different designs and often it draws attention to your sink and allows it to stand out from the design making it the center of the room. The down side to a pedestal sink is that there isn't any storage under it. However, typically because of the lack of storage, the pedestal doesn't take up as much room in the bathroom as a vanity sink base would so you have room elsewhere in the bathroom to have a shelf and add to your design. Also, if you have a smaller bathroom and a closet so that storage really isn't an issue, a pedestal sink may be the way to go because you will not have to worry about taking up so much room.
2. Vanity
The vanity is a little more popular when it comes to full bathrooms where as the pedestal is common for half baths or a guest bath that does not require as much storage. The vanity is known for it's room and storage and is great for a kids' bathroom or a master bath where you have a lot to put away. Counter space is another reason why having a vanity is great. Of course you have all of the under the sink storage, but you also have room for soap and towels as well as a place to put your make up or accessories while you are getting ready. Many people like to have this option if they have the room in their bathroom because they have more than one person using it and the more space, the easier it is to get everyone ready in the morning and out the door. While the upside is having a lot more room, there is a down side to the vanity option as a sink base. It can be a lot more complicated to install as well as to hookup the plumbing components.
Another great thing about the vanity is that you have so many more options when it comes to different components. You can design the under the sink parts to meet your needs when it comes to storage. You can have the sinks the way you like them and you can choose a counter top and cabinet doors. The pedestal, while it has a great design aspect itself, is just one thing.
Either one of these two options are great for the bathroom. If you are someone who is very minimalistic or has alternate storing elsewhere then a pedestal sink base would be great for you. However if you like to have everything right there stored and easy to get to then a vanity is great. Considering your needs and priorities first can help you decide which is better for both your lifestyle and design vision.
