2 Common DLP Problems

by DoItYourself Staff

If you own a DLP television, it is important to know about common DLP problems and the proper way to go about fixing them. Below are some of the most common problems experienced by owners of DLP televisions.

1. Overheating

Overheating is one of the most common DLP problems and is actually characteristic of many other types of contemporary television sets. In addition to reducing the life your television's bulb, overheating can cause significant wear and tear on your TV's other components and, in the worst case scenario, burn out the television or cause an electrical fire. The simplest way to combat overheating is to turn off the set whenever it isn't in use. Also, if you frequently fall asleep with the TV on, make sure to set a timer to ensure that the set turns itself off even if you aren't awake to do so. Keep in mind that excessive overheating can sometimes be the result of a faulty cooling fan.

2. Blurry or Hazy Picture

Another one of the most common DLP problems is a blurred or hazy picture, which is usually coupled with improperly displayed colors. In most cases, this problem is caused by a faulty color wheel and can be diagnosed by a distinctive wailing noise emanating from the set. Fortunately, these parts are fairly easy to replace and can be found at most major electronics stores.
