2 Mounting Tips for Attic Fans

by DoItYourself Staff

Installing an attic fan is an affordable way to help control the temperature in your home. During the hot summer months an attic fan can be used to help circulate the air, creating a more comfortable environment. Installing a fan is a simple job that most people can do on their own. Here are a few tips.

Fan Location

Where you decide to install the fan can really affect the efficiency. It will need to be installed in an area that will allow for proper exhaust to the outside. You also need to consider where the ceiling opening will be to allow the fan to draw air in. Depending on how your house has been constructed, the mounting may be vertical or horizontal.

Type of Fan

The way the fan is mounted will be based largely on the type of fan you choose. A solar fan will need to be mounted with a solar panel that can connect with the power unit of the fan. This means if you place a solar panel, the fan can't be too far away from it. An electric fan can be mounted almost anywhere in the attic and still be effective since it relies on a constant energy source.
