2Tips for Mildew Mold Removal in the Bathroom

by DoItYourself Staff

If your bathroom is in need of a thorough cleaning, you may be wondering how to go about the mildew and mold removal process. If so, read on to learn the basics of mildew and mold removal.

Reduce Your Bathroom's Humidity

Mildew and mold thrive in humid, poorly ventilated environments, which is why household bathrooms are veritable breeding grounds for them. One way to get your bathroom's humidity under control is to frequently run a carefully placed window fan. Alternatively, if your bathroom features a ceiling fan, simply run the device on a consistent basis. This is perhaps the simplest method of mildew and mold removal.

Vigorously Clean Your Bathroom

Although it may seem obvious, thorough cleaning is arguably the most effective method of mildew and mold removal. Use a washcloth, sponge or scrub brush in conjunction with a commercial mildew and mold cleaner to administer a vigorous cleaning to any mildew or mold-laden areas. If you're not a fan of the potent chemicals found in many commercial cleaners, vinegar has proven quite effective in both purging mildew and mold and deodorizing infected areas. In addition, a  mixture of standard chlorine bleach and water is a great way to remove mildew and mold on a budget.
