3 Common Pendant Lighting Problems to Avoid

by DoItYourself Staff

There are at least 3 common pendant lighting problems that you can avoid when installing and maintaining pendant lights in your home. Pendant lights are a type of lighting that can bring accent lighting or a sense elegance to a room at a cost that is much lower than the price of chandelier lights. Each of the problems relate to some installation issue that could have been resolved before the lights were installed. In order to avoid these common problems, this article will discuss ways to approach the installation process differently.

1. Hanging the Pendant Lights too High

One common problem that occurs when installing pendant lights is that the installation of the lights is too high. This makes it difficult to reach the lights without the risk of harm when changing a light bulb. This is a common problem with pendant lighting that can easily be resolved by making sure that the lights are properly positioned so that they hang low enough to be accessible, but high enough to give off the desired effect.

During the installation process of the pendant lights in you home, either by you or a professional installer, you should check to make sure that they are accessible at all times before the installation is completed. If you are unable to reach the pendant lights without great difficulty, they need to be adjusted accordingly so that you are never placed in a perilous position changing light bulbs.

2. Flickering Lights

Lights that flicker when you turn the switch on are indicative of a short somewhere in the electrical circuit for the pendant lights. This problem can occur if you failed to turn the power off when installing the pendant lighting on your own or can be part of a bigger problem with your home's electricity. In either case, troubleshooting the home's wiring will help you pinpoint and identify the source of your electrical problems and get the necessary fix in place in order to eliminate the flickering lights.

3. Lights that Do Not Work Properly

Lights that do not work properly include those that do not turn on when the power switch is engaged or those that fail to stay on once the light switch is turned on. In either situations, this again can indicate a larger problem with your home's electrical system that needs to be addressed by a qualified electrician. You can test to see if the problem of the faulty pendant lights in more indicative of a larger lighting problem throughout your home by testing other light switches. This will also help you isolate the area of your home where the wiring may be bad.
