3 Dangers of an Ionic Air Purifier

by DoItYourself Staff

There are not many dangers associated with an ionic air purifier, but the ones that exist should be taken seriously. Keep the purifier in a safe, stable location, avoid running the turning it on if there is standing water. Also, be sure there is plenty of ventilation, and everything should be fine.

Trip and Fall Risks

Trips and falls account for a majority of injuries around the home. An ionic air purifier can be pretty small, and could create a trip hazard. For example, leaving the purifier in the center of a room over night could be dangerous to someone trying to navigate the room during the night who didn't know the purifier was there.

Electrical Dangers

An ionic purifier could start an electrical fire. If the cord is frayed or worn, of the floor is wet, danger of electrocution would be a major concern. Operate the purifier as you would any other electrical appliance, and keep everyone safe.

Ozone Dangers

One of the newest and most dangerous hazards related to an ionic purifier is the fact that it is an ozone factory. The way the device works is to create ozone which cleans the air and ozone is considered dangerous by the EPA and American Lung Association.
