3 Different Ways to Cook Leeks

by DoItYourself Staff

Leeks are popular in Europe, but not so much in the United States. Part of the reason may be that people don't know how to cook them. Here are three different ways to cook leeks.

Bake

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a baking pan with extra-virgin olive oil. Lay your leeks in a single layer and sprinkle them with salt and pepper. Sprinkle your favorite raw nut or cheese on top. Bake the dish for 25 to 30 minutes. Check often to make sure you don't overbake it.

Stir-Fry

Chop the leeks into small pieces. Stir-fry them in a wok or skillet along with your other stir-fry vegetables. Use olive oil and season to taste.

Saute

A more traditional approach is to saute them the way you would other vegetables. You can top them with a sauce of choice, such as lemon juice.

Look for leeks in the wintertime where you buy your local produce. They'll make a unique, healthy addition to your diet.
