3 Disadvantages of Specialty Transmission Repair Shops

by DoItYourself Staff

Many people decide to utilize transmission repair shops when they are having trouble with their car's transmission. While this can work, there are a few disadvantages that these shops will present. Here are some of the disadvantages of specialty transmission repair shops.

1. Cost

One of the biggest disadvantages of using a specialty transmission repair shop is the cost. Using this type of shop is going to be much more expensive than doing it yourself in most cases. They are going to add on to the cost of the transmission to provide them with a profit. They are also going to charge you quite a bit for the labor to install it. This means that you might find yourself with a large bill once the transmission has been repaired.

2. Lack of Accountability

Another problem with this type of repairer shop is a lack of accountability. When you trust your car to this type of operation, you basically have to believe whatever they tell you. If they say that they will have to make a certain repair, you will have to take them at their word.

3. Time

Many of these shops also take a significant amount of time to repair your car. When you do not have an alternate means of transportation, this can be a huge burden.
