3 Plants That Attract Butterflies
Butterflies are beneficial to the garden both with their visual appeal and by their ability to pollinate your flowers. The following three plants have a reputation for attracting butterflies and are widely available at most nurseries.
Buddleia: Also Known as Butterfly Bush
This plant produces showy blossoms during mid summer; not to mention they are extremely easy to grow. They were given the nickname butterfly bush because of their undeniable ability to attract butterflies. Their honey scented blossoms are simply irresistible to numerous species of butterfly, most notably the Monarch.
Tageta: Also Known as Marigolds
This annual flower is sure to attract both butterflies and caterpillars to your garden. Not to mention, they produce large and flamboyant blossoms in a variety of colors; most commonly orange and yellow. Marigolds are widely available to grow from seed or seedling in most climate zones. They are very inexpensive and fairly easy to grow and maintain in the garden.
Asclepias Syriaca: Also Known as Common Milkweed
Common Milkweed is not the most attractive plant in a home garden. However, their scent and large purple blossoms become the obsession of various species of butterflies. This plant is adaptable to most climates and requires very little care.
