3 Reasons for a Lockable Medicine Cabinet

by DoItYourself Staff

If you have little ones in your house, a lockable medicine cabinet is a must. Even if you don't have children, you may still need a locked medicine cabinet and not even realize it. Read below for scenarios where a lockable medicine cabinet is a must.

Children

The most obvious people who need a lockable medicine cabinet are those with children. Even if your medicine cabinet is high on the bathroom wall, do not underestimate a toddler's determination to reach it. If your children are a bit older or if your medicine cabinet is not raised, you may want to consider a lock with a key.

Visitors

If you have kids then chances are you have pint-sized visitors to your house and you need to protect them too. Even if you don't have children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and friend's kids also need to be prevented from accessing your medicine cabinet.

Pets

Some pets, especially dogs, have teeth strong enough to shred medicine bottles. This means you need to make sure they don't get to the medicine in the first place. For some pets sliding or hook locks could be sufficient but if your pet is especially clever, go for a key lock on your lockable medicine cabinet.
