3 Types of Spray Paint Guns Explained
Spray paint guns are normally used by everyone who wants to complete a spraying job on a car. The guns eject a huge amount of spray, so it is much easier to use than spray cans. Spray guns are sometimes used to paint something else other than cars, such as a boat, but I won’t recommend it for projects such as spraying a room. The spray guns can also be applied for primers, sealers and undercoats.
There are different types of spray guns available on the market. Most of the guns use air pressure to release the spray. Each gun consists of a nozzle, paint basin, and air compressor. There are three types of nozzles: full cone, hollow cone and flat stream. When using the gun, try to spray horizontally, not in a zigzag manner.
There are also four different types of guns. Each gun has its own benefits, but if a gun is more efficient, the cost would be more. Guns which require a large air compressor usually do a better job than the guns with small air compressors, but you also have to spend more money to get the compressors.
Suction Feed Gun
The suction feed gun pulls air all the way to the top of the gun, pulling the paint along with it. Because the suction feed gun needs a lot of air, you would need a large compressor. However, if the compressor is large, the finish will look better.
Pressure Feed Gun
The second type of gun is the pressure feed gun. The gun creates pressure by applying it down into the paint bucket, which also makes the paint go up. If you have a small compressor and you don’t have the money to buy a larger one, then the pressure feed gun would be suitable for you.
Bleeder Guns
The third type of gun is the bleeder gun. This type of gun does not use pressure, so the air cap must always be open while the compressor is operating, and that would make the paint come up. The last type of gun is the non bleeder one, which is similar to the bleeder gun, except that you get to control the amount of spray released and the air flowing into the gun. If your compressor does not have a tank or air receiver, the bleeder gun will be perfect for you. Because of that, the bleeder guns are generally much cheaper than the other guns. If your gun is more efficient, then you would require less time to spend on sanding and rubbing the car, but it is recommended that people who are new to spray guns use the bleeder gun. As you advance in skill, use the more proficient guns.
Additional Tips
To make your job easier, buy a gun with a spray kit attached to it. The reason why this is beneficial is because the spray kit would already have the compressor suitable for the type of gun. If you would like to buy both the gun and the compressor separately, then use the tips provided above about which type of compressor would be suitable for each type of gun.
