4 Common Vaulted Ceiling Problems

by DoItYourself Staff

A vaulted ceiling is a great way to give your home a vintage look from the 80s era, when almost every other house had a vaulted ceiling. A vaulted ceiling not only looks great and adds a lot of aesthetic value to your home, but can also give your room a very airy feeling, making it look spacious and larger than its actual size. Unfortunately, the problems with vaulted ceilings tend to far outnumber the advantages.

1) Poor Use of Space

The main problem is that a vaulted ceiling occupies a lot of space that could otherwise have been used for increasing the overall room height.

2) Poor Climate Control

Insulation is another big problem, as the warm air tends to gather up in the cavity, which, in turns, compels the AC to work overtime in order to keep it cool.

3) Difficulty Installing Fixtures

Thirdly, given the structure of the ceiling, installing lights and fans in the ceiling becomes an uphill task for the homeowner.

4) Difficult Maintenance and Cleaning

Besides this, dirt and cobwebs gets formed in the ceiling's corners, and the high ones are very difficult to clean.

Thus, we see that these are some of the common problems that an owner needs to tackle if he wants to preserve the vintage beauty of a home with a vaulted ceiling.
