4 Decorative Wall Sconce Light Fixture Ideas

by DoItYourself Staff

A wall sconce light fixture can change or enhance a space within your home. Below are four creative ideas as to how a sconce light fixture, properly placed, can enhance other objects and add some desired texture to your space.

Romantic Accents

If you would like to add a romantic accent, use a sconce in set places on each wall in the room. To create a balance, keep them at the same height and equally spaced. Also, look for sconces that are more romantic in nature, such as ones with highly decorative embellishments, hearts, or outstretching flowers.

Highlighting Large Artwork

You can also highlight the focal pieces of your artwork with a well-placed sconce. The sconce you purchase should not be too dark nor too light; you want your main piece of artwork to be the highlight of the wall and not the sconce. Depending on the color of your wall, choose a sconce that neither blends in nor stands out and isn't too decorative.

Lighting the Space

If you want to use wall sconce light fixture as a main lighting source, you will need many large sconces. In order to do this appropriately, you will need to have them at a height of 72 to 78 inches. They should also be at least six feet apart on the wall to ensure optimal lighting of your space.

Hallway Lighting

If you are placing the sconce in a hallway, you should purchase about 3-4 sconces. For a more traditional look, buy 3-4 of the same sconce to light your hallway and place them all at the exact same height. If you would like to create a more modern look, buy two different styles of sconces and place one kind first and then the other on the wall. Also, feel free to place them at different heights, such as one lower and one higher, which will add some interest to the wall.
