4 Kinds of Electrical Outlet Safety Covers

by DoItYourself Staff

When you have children then adding electrical outlet safety covers is something you must have. Children are curious and will get into anything they find interesting. Outlets and surge protectors are usually hidden which makes them interesting. Electrical outlet safety covers will help protect your child from electrocution. Several kinds of electrical outlet safety covers exist and the popular ones are listed here.

1 - Outlet Caps

These are pressed into the outlet. Children lack the motor skill needed to remove them. There are flat caps and ones with a small grip which makes them easier for you to remove.

2 - Complete Cover

Some electrical outlet safety covers can still be removed with effort, but not this type. This particular cover replaces the current outlet cover. It seals off the outlet holes and even covers the screws so a child cannot remove them.

3 - Snap Cover

This is much like the complete cover except it is not flat and 2 buttons need to be pressed at the same time in order to remove it.

4 - Surge Protector

Never forget about these devices as they are just as dangerous and interesting to children. Electrical outlet safety covers exist to encase the surge protector and prevent the plugs from being removed.
