4 Signs You Have Carpet Mold

by DoItYourself Staff

Carpet mold is a serious problem that affects many homeowners every year. If you discover that you have carpet mold, you will want to consider replacing your carpet immediately. Here are a few signs that you should look for that may indicate carpet mold.

1. Carpet Discoloration

One of the most obvious signs of carpet mold is when your carpet starts to discolor in a certain area. You might notice that the carpet color is slightly different than it was before. While carpet discoloration does not necessarily always mean carpet mold, you should consider it as a possibility.

2. Moisture

If you discover that there is moisture in your carpet, there is a good chance that you have mold in the carpet. If you have a flood or spill something on the carpet and it is not cleaned up in a timely manner, mold will begin to form.

3. Odor

Many times, you will be able to notice a musty odor in the carpet when mold is present. This is very common after the carpet gets wet and you attempt to dry it.

4. Health Problems

Carpet mold can cause problems such as sneezing, coughing, respiratory problems, headaches, and fatigue. If you experience these symptoms in conjunction with some of the other signs, carpet mold could be the culprit.
