4 Types of Halogen Light Fixtures Explained

Halogen light fixtures are electrical devices used in homes, gardens, offices, theaters, industrial establishments, automotives, marine establishments, hospitals and others to create artificial light or illumination. These fixtures are complete with light source or lamp, reflectors that direct the lighting, the aperture and the outer shell or housing, electrical ballast and connection to a power source such as a socket or batteries. In most cases, halogen light fixtures are classified according to their lamp type or light function.

Halogen Light Fixtures for Home Use

Halogen lamps have been used in homes all over the country for many generations. Big lighting companies are currently selling standardized halogen lamp fixtures for home uses. Since these lighting fixtures come in standard sizes and models, one can easily switch one brand of bulb to another without changing the fixtures. Most of these halogen lamps run on single filaments and are energy efficient. For low lightings, you can simply install a 10W or 15W bulb. To create a dramatic garden ambiance, you can use halogen lamps with colored housing.

Automotive Halogen Lamps

Automotive halogen lighting fixtures are usually found in the headlights and taillights of the vehicle.  The protective housing of this type of lamp has built-in reflectors that direct the light. In most cases, automotive lamps are available in 6V, 12 V and 24 V versions. Smaller automotive halogen lamps consist of single filaments in 55 watts and 100 watts versions. On the other hand, bigger lamps such as headlights often have dual filaments and produce around 55W to 100 W on its low beam and around 60W to 130W on high beam.  Prices of automotive halogen lamps vary depending on this wattage, design and other feathers.

Architectural Halogen Light Fixtures

Architectural halogen light fixtures come in different varieties. Linear fixtures that are complete with lamps usually measures about 118mm or 78mm. This type of lamps is popular in high end homes, hotels, restaurants, cafes and spas. The dual end ended halogen lamp can help create the right ambiance in homes, hotels, restaurants, cafes and spas. While the linear halogen lighting fixture is commonly found in hotels, restaurants and cafes, the dichroic halogen light fixture is often found in theaters. This type of halogen fixture has multi-layer interference films than make it ideal for theater use. Lighting fixtures that have sophisticated coatings can help absorb UV and control the color on stage. Parabolic Aluminized Reflector (PAR) Lamp

Although many of us may not be familiar with parabolic aluminized reflector (PAR) lamps, these types of halogen lighting fixtures can actually be found almost everywhere. The PAR lamps are actually like the sealed beam of an automotive headlight. Most theaters, concert venues and motion picture productions use the PAR lamp. These types of lights are also popular used as recessed lights in hotels, spas, restaurants and cafes. Prices of these types of lamps vary depending on their wattage, design, size and utility.
