5 Advantages of Owning a DLP Projector

by DoItYourself Staff

Many people use a DLP projector for a number of different applications. Owning a DLP projector can present you with a number of unique advantages over other similar types of projectors. Here are some of the advantages of owning a DLP projector and why you might want to consider purchasing one.

1 - Large Picture

One of the biggest advantages of owning a DLP projector is that it provides you with a large television picture. You can project movies, television feeds, and even video games from your DLP projector. This can also be done relatively discreetly compared to a big, bulky television set. You can install the DLP projector in an unassuming place and then just shoot the signal onto a large space on a wall. Then, when you are not watching television, you will not have a huge television taking up a big part of the room.

2 - Filter Free

The DLP projector's biggest competitor is the LCD projector. While LCD's do have some good things about them, they require a filter in order to work properly. With these filters in the projector, you have to periodically clean them in order for the projector to keep working. Depending on the model of LCD projector that you buy, they may recommend cleaning it after anywhere from 100 to 300 hours of projecting. If the suggestion is 100 hours, that amount of time will go by very quickly with a projector. You could potentially be cleaning the filter in your projector quite a bit. This means that LCD projectors take quite a bit more work to maintain than DLP projectors. DLP projectors have no such filter to worry about.

3 - Lamp Free

Another potential advantage of DLP projectors is that you may not have to worry about bulbs to light the unit. Many DLP projectors now have a feature called solid-state illumination. This means that the light source of the DLP projector will last just as long as the projector itself in most cases. This can save you quite a bit of money when you do not have to worry about buying replacement bulbs.

4 - Great Readability

DLP projectors also present you with another advantage in the form of a high native contrast ratio. This means that the contrast in the picture between black and white will be very dramatic. Your blacks will be very dark and your whites will be very light. This makes the entire projection much easier to read than other types of projectors.

5 - Reliable Picture

Another great advantage of owning a DLP projector is that the picture will always be consistent and reliable. With LCD projectors, you are sometimes subject to color decay. This means that over the years, the picture will start to look yellow and slightly faded. With a DLP projector, you do not have to worry about color decay. You will be able to get a crisp, clear picture time and time again.
