5 Common Fireplace Remote Control Problems

by DoItYourself Staff

A fireplace remote control is convenient to use at home especially for gas installation. It makes it easy to turn on and put of the fire easily. Make sure that it is good condition by placing it in a cool and dry place when not in use. Check the condition of batteries regularly and ensure they are working as required. Do not leave the remote control near the fireplace or where young one’s can access it easily.

Batteries

If there is a problem in signal transmission then start by checking if batteries are working correctly. If they have been in the remote control for too long then replacing them with new ones is ideal. Find also if they are connected in the right manner as the problem could be as simple as this.

Functions on the Remote Control

Problems could stem from the remoter control device. This is whereby buttons do not operate when pressed. The problem could be with its internal wiring or electric connection. In this case, take it to a technician to resolve the problem. If the batteries are in good condition as well as other connecting devices in its system then the remote control might be the cause of the problem.

Receiver

This device gets signals from the remote control and allows gas fireplace to be manipulated as needed. If it is not installed correctly then the remote control might not work as required. Inspect it if signals are not being transmitted upon pressing the remote control.

Locate where it is positioned and find out if it is connected properly. Also check its position and whether the wiring is in good condition.

Power Supply

It is advisable to place the receiver in close proximity to power supply. This is important as the cable might not be too long to reach some of the power outlets in the house. Stretching it too much can cause a loose connection.

A solution for this can be to extend the receiver’s cable so as to comfortably reach the nearest power supply with ease. Make sure the wire is not too taut. Avoid placing it next to the stove or fire place as it might get spoiled or damaged by heat.

Poor Installation

When fixing the receiver to the gas valve, make sure it is positioned properly. This can cause signal interference and bring about poor performance. A good idea is to position the receiver at different points on the gas valve. This should be used for testing purposes during installation.

Find out which position provides the best and clearest signal when putting on and turning off the fire place. Secure the receiver in place and inspect it regularly to maintain it in the same position.

Tips

  • Buy extra sets of batteries and store them in a safe and dry place. Use them to replace the old set as soon as they stop working or become weak.
  • Enforce fire safety standards in the home. Children should not be allowed to play with the fireplace remote control or the gas fireplace.
